There are three main types of cameras that all photographers need themselves. And I am not just talking about brands, such as Sony or Canon, or even sensor types, such as a full frame or an APS C. I mean Deeper Camera selection level – The types of cameras that give fundamentally different ways to take photos and allow you to create your best work, no matter what style you like.
And while these types can be three physically separate cameras, they can be shown in two cameras, or even just one. I explain, so let's dive into the camera type number one.
Workheors
This is the camera that becomes stuff. It is probably packed with modern camera technology. It is sharp to use, shoots at high speed, power-fast autofocus, possibly image stabilization, and uses almost certainly interchangeable lenses. It can be a well full frame. This is the camera that uses the world for all types of photo shoots – as I have – from weddings to cars from cars to pets … whatever. This is a jack-off-all-trade camera that you can trust that you will need any time at any time.
I have used my Canon R5 on many professional shoots for photos and videos. It is a high-demonstration all-rounder.
For me right now, this is the canon R5. Fast, high resolution. Tons of facilities. A flippy screen. And it shoots terrible video. Endless lens and secondary options. This is the camera that I trust for most of my professional work because I know it can distribute it and I know when I am using it I can distribute it. Earlier this canon has been 5DIV and before that it was the canon 6D. For you, it can be Sony A7RV, Nikon Z8 or Panasonic Lumix S5ii.
It may not be the latest model around, but whether it was launched in 2025 or 2005, it will tick on all boxes that you are required for busy day of photography whether you are a professional or an enthusiastic amateur. The workhorse is a camera that will do everything and it will do it well. But it is probably quite large and perhaps very expensive. A compact, fixed-lens camera such as the X100vi of Fujifilm is great to be with you, always ready to shoot.
The Evede Carrie
It is a small digital. A compact point and shoot, ideally. Almost certainly a certain lens. Fuji X100VI or Ricoh Grie. Even relatively ancient Sony RX1R or Leica Q3. Q3 is not really small, but I really love my Q3 43 as everyday carry. This will be the type of camera that you can hold quickly when you are going out in a hurry without thinking about the lens. When you do not want a gear -filled backpack when you camp, but around the camp fire you and your companions want a lot of fun shots. This is the camera that you can always take. This is the social camera that you are not doing amidst the chaos of life. It can probably be only your phone camera.

This is probably the lightest camera that you have that allows you to comfortably wear around your neck when you are roaming the streets of some old Italian city. This is probably quite small to slip into your pocket when you go at once and easily slip back when the light comes beautifully through the pub window and you want to hold a quick shot.
Whenever I look at them, my leeka Q3 43 with me always allows me to snap scenes with me.
This is a camera for quick shoots and for social shoots-perhaps even graduated and shoot from hip or spray. This is probably the camera on which you have captured the most memories, but it is probably not even the camera you have used to take your favorite fine art photos. Oh no, it will be one.
The Artful One
this can not be happening Technically Be your best camera. It may not have the most characteristics. This may not be the smallest, fastest or easiest use. But this is the camera that inspires you the most. This is the one who makes you feel creative by seeing it. This is the one you choose to take when you drive at one place for hours in the hope of a slim, you may have good light that evening.
This is the camera that slows you and thinks of art in your images instead of accelerating a thousand average -grade snaps. This is the camera responsible for the work that you are the most proud of.
Hasselblad 907x – a wonderful, bizarre camera.
This camera can be a lot of things. It can be a film camera, it is 35 mm or 120 medium format. As long as you are not happy to spend luck on the film, you will slow down you alone and adopt you a more systematic approach. ,
I found the X-Pan Panorama mode of Hasselbad incredibly inspiring. The image was also shortlisted for a major UK photography award.
This is a camera that you can't even do yourself and may not even know that you want. I did not know that I was at all interested in film photography, yet on the second day I gave a handful of cash to a man in a car park to buy Mamia 645 Pro in my medium format, which I am very excited to use. Life sometimes throws things in your way. So it is possible that this camera is one, about which you should have a little open mind. But this is also what you can be most happy that you meet in the coming years.
Three types, a camera
Between the workhears, The Evede Carrie and the Artful One, you cover yourself in any aspect of photography, no matter what style you like dub.
I took my Canon R5 to Sicily, where it performed all the roles of the workheors, everyday carry and inspirational camera. You do not necessarily require three separate cameras.
Of course, some cameras may be two things. Hell, some cameras may be all three. And this is absolutely fine – until a camera ticks each of those three boxes for you. It is really above you whether your camera is quite small for your everyday carry or is enough inspiration to be artistic.
My canon R5 can definitely be all three with a compact prime on this. It was a great everyday carry on a trip to Sicily and it inspired me to take artistic pictures, which I later licensed to go to a luxury trip book, which meant that it was Too My workheors. So on that one journey, it alone tickled all three boxes. But this is not always for all those things for me.
My leaka Q3 43 was a great Carrie camera everyday on my recent trip to Swedish Arctic and Barcelona. This was the camera that I took on several boat trips to various remote Scottish islands and it was the camera when I went to hang out with my brother for my 40th birthday. And yes, it is also a camera that encourages me, which inspires me and urges me to be more creative with my shooting. Because it is a curse and the photographer does not feel excited to take photos when catching a leika?
My Leica Q3 43 Sweden had a wonderful everyday carry and professional workheors on my assignment. Did this inspire me creatively? Absolutely.
But this is my recent forces in the film, which has taught me more about slowing and crafting me, and its culmination has inspired me to get this Mamia 645 as my artistic camera, which fulfills my personal sacred Trinity.
And of course, such as my work and my style develops and other cameras come and go, that the trio of the cameras will change in years, but the basic building blocks of the workers, everyday carry and artful forest will always need to meet whatever camera.
