Qualcomm is introducing a new badge for manufacturers to ensure that they are buying a connected device that includes the best possible 5G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies.
Similar to the concept for the famous Intel inside the sticker, Qualcomm is visible on everything from the latest smartphones and laptops to AR/VR headsets and even connected cars.
Qualcomm said in a statement, “The devices with Snapdragon Connect will provide extremely fast download and upload speed,” with the hope that the users “will be able to download the feature-length films in seconds and expect a completely smooth streams of the ultra-HD video.”
It adds that Snapdragon Connect would guarantee that “Best-in-Class 5G, ship with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies” that not only distribute top performance, but also “reliable associated experience” and “surprising multi-gigbit speed” with minimal delay.
Another objective of Snapdragon connect devices will have to use “despair-free” internet in crowded places such as stadiums, even when people are struggling with crowds and are not close to a cellular or Wi-Fi access point.
Snapdragon Connect requirements
To qualify for the Snapdragon Connect badge, a smartphone or hot spot will have to include Snapdragon 8 General 1 processor with Snapdragon X62, X65, or Just-Mined X70 5G-RF system. This will ensure that it supports the 160MHz channel bandwidth, and 5G mmwave with Bluetooth 5.1+, Wi-Fi 6e, as well as Qualcomm facilities like signal boost and smart transmit.
Non-cellular devices such as laptops and gaming console will have to use Qualcomm Fastconnect 6900 or better Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chipset, supported by a Snapdragon 8CX, 8C, 7C+, 7C, 7C, 7C, or G3X Sen 1 processor. Wearables such as Smartwatches will also be eligible to achieve Snapdragon Connect designation, although Qualcomm has not yet released details on those requirements.
