Yesterday marked an important moment for Apple as it launched the iPhone 16E worldwide. Each iPhone launch is important, but the iPhone 16E is particularly important for some reasons.
This is the development of the Apple iPhone se lineup, and like its spiritual ancestors, the iPhone 16E has more economical versions of the rest of the lineup yet. Unlike its ancestors, it also includes several trademarks of iPhone experience, including face ID, an OLED display and the latest generation processors.
All of this is $ 599, but comes with several cutbacks from more expensive phones that can be a deluge for something. These include an OLED display without a 120Hz refresh rate, always from the iPhone 16 Pro lineup and only one camera. Then the Apple C1 is a modem, with the first phone to introduce iPhone 16E Apple's modem.
Cutback on the iPhone 16 Pro meant that I expected to dismiss it immediately, but after a few hours, I love the iPhone 16e, as much as I expected. here's why.
A modern, small-nine iPhone
The iPhone se lineup felt like a residue because Apple went on a more modern, all screen design. Recently, it was the only phone in the lineup with a home button, and last time I reviewed it, I remember that there was a strong learning state from Apple's latest iPhones.
The iPhone 16E changes all this, and unlike SE, it is a phone that feels familiar as soon as it picks up. This is the same ergonomically favorable design painted in the iPhone 16, but it lacks latter colors, and if you have used a recent iPhone, it will be another nature to start using.
I wish there were more colors for this release – the iPhone 5C anyone? – But it is fundamentally a cute, small iPhone. I say lightly; The 6.1 -inch display is only 0.2 inches smaller than the iPhone 16 Pro, but the iPhone 6E is 0.5 mm thin, 32 grams lighter and smaller fraction than the Pro. The difference of weight, in particular, makes it extremely comfortable in the hand, and it is slightly lighter than the regular iPhone 16 despite performance of the same size.
Keeping in mind the middle -selling sales of iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini, I think a case should also be called that when I like small phones, most people want a big performance. Keeping this in mind, I think the iPhone 16E hits the mark; The display is quite large for any user to feel that they have a large screen, but it is quite small that it feels comfortable in one hand.
Performance is great … mostly
No one is found around it: 60Hz display on iPhone 6E is quite smooth to scroll compared to the iPhone 16 Pro. This should be expected as the latter has a 120Hz refresh rate, but perhaps it is the quality of every other smartphone display that makes the low fresh rate more noticeable. I do not remember that the iPhone 16 was feeling like this, but it was also six months ago.
However, not each user will notice 60Hz, especially considering the quality of the OLED panel. It is a huge upgrade on the iPhone SE lineup and uses the same super retinal XDR OLED technology found in the rest of the iPhone 16 lineup. Yes, they have other features that separate them, but the iPhone 16E has a beautiful display, and on 1200 nits peak shine, it is probably brighter for most scenarios.
In addition to the fresh rate, the iPhone 16e is always disappointed with the lack of performance. Performance supports this, so it is a conscious option from Apple. It remains to be seen how this battery affects life overall, but it is an area that I am excited to test further.
Promise of solid hardware and battery
The iPhone 16E iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus are powered by the A18 processor similar to the processor, and so far, I have not yet seen no overall difference in performance. Without a doubt, it has improved far more on the previous iPhone SE, but the time will tell how well this processor performs.
Under the hood, we hope that the iPhone 16E has 8GB RAM, which meets the minimum requirements for Apple Intelligence. The iPhone 16E is designed to bring APT of Apple to the public on AI, as one of the setup screens focuses on the visual intelligence. I like some parts of Apple Intelligence, and it is improving, but it remains to be seen if it is enough for a draw to attract new customers.
The choice of Apple of C1 modem for iPhone 16E means that the modem should be more efficient. I am excited to see how it performs, but my early tests show it to slow down than the iPhone 16 Pro. It was a handful of tests, so it is purely anecdote, and I will do more detailed tests on it soon.
The entire package is powered by the largest battery in the iPhone. The base iPhone 16 provides 22 hours of video playback, and the iPhone SE 3rd generation is rated in 15 hours. IPhone 16E? 26 hours. Yes, the best battery life on an iPhone is the same size and behemoth iPhone 16 Pro Max's battery life. I hope it saves, because it will be my battery life-changer for life.
The iPhone 16E has shortcomings, but I like it yet
The iPhone 16E seems very familiar, but it is not going to change any of the existing iPhone 16 lineups. Instead, it is designed for one of the most users that prefer two things above all: battery life and value.
Yes, many affordable Android phones have better specs at better or equal price – that is, OnePlus 13R and Pixel 8A – but the iPhone 16E is not competing against them. I spent years in the phone retail, and I think the iPhone 16E will be extremely popular for those who do not need fancy cameras-yes, millions of people do not care about the camera-but want a long-lasting iPhone.

I have not talked about single camera, but it is better than my expectation. You can read my first impression of the camera, but TL; Dr. It is surprisingly capable. Of course, there is no ultravide camera, which can be a deal breaker, but it is for iPhone 16. I am particularly surprised at the quality of 2x zoom, as you can see from the gallery above.
From my first impression, iPhone 16 is the best cheap iPhone that I have ever used. $ 600 This may not seem that cheap – especially given the iPhone 16, usually exempted this price through carrier deals – but it is a surprisingly good phone. The best iPhone 16E deals can stop the phone for nothing with your carrier, and it just makes it sweet.
Of course, I have only spent a few hours with the iPhone 16E, so my conclusions can still be changed, but I am excited to try it.
