You’d totally use Windows 11 with Android apps on your phone

Windows 11 Android app

Windows 11 sometimes has quite strict system requirements, so that many PC owners could initially be left in the lurch. But that hasn’t stopped inventors from porting Windows 11 to smartphones.

A student ported the new Windows update to the 2015 Lumia 950 XL Windows Phone, while a group of hackers got it working on the Snapdragon 845 with OnePlus 6T. What if Windows 11 and Android app support was officially available for your phone? Would you use it We asked that last week, and that’s how you answered.

Would you be running Windows 11 on your phone if it had Android app support?

Results

are Android authority Readers open to changing operating systems? Well, just over half of all readers surveyed said they would run Windows 11 on their phones if the operating system had Android app support on mobile devices. That’s a bit of a surprise in my book given our focus on Android, but it does suggest that the apps are more important than the Android platform itself.

Meanwhile, a significant proportion (29%) of the surveyed users say that they could get started if Windows 11 also had Google support on mobile devices. This is not surprising given that Google apps are used by many people around the world. Third-party apps like Uber and WhatsApp also use Google’s services, which makes things even more complicated. We also saw Huawei’s Google-free version of Android, and the lack of Google apps and GMS support has done a lot of damage to the company’s cellular business.

Finally, just over 18% of respondents say they won’t be running Windows 11 on their phones, whether it has basic Android app support or Google integration. This is an understandable decision as Windows isn’t really intended for mobile screens and shows this with the UI on unofficial ports. The benefit of having a full-fledged Windows in your pocket may not outweigh the user interface and / or performance issues.

Remarks

  • Bryant Allen: If Microsoft had done that earlier, they might still have stayed in the smartphone game. A new (old) foldable phone does not count there because it runs on Android. But how would it run Windows11.
  • Carmelo Parian: That’s surprising, imagine a smartphone that runs a Windows operating system and it also fully supports Android apps.
  • Painfully_Candid: I don’t care about Android apps as it is, so I certainly don’t care about Win11 on a phone because of the “Android app support”.
  • turk: If they were smart they would have used Windows 10x’s rationale for a mobile device or just made a regular surface phone with a single screen. If they had made their own skin like Samsung, where they integrated Microsoft apps, I’d buy one.
  • Andrew Zuo: And yet they don’t have it installed on a 6 year old computer. Planned obsolescence in action.
