- WhatsApp is supposed to expand the function of disappearing messages.
- A new 24-hour option is intended to supplement the existing 7-day setting.
WhatsApp builds on its message disappearing feature and will be added soon, according to WABetaInfo. The intelligence service should add an option for a second period of time to the function. Currently, disappearing messages cannot be stopped for seven days. The upcoming update will apparently also add an option for 24 hours.
Chats that have been sent or received will disappear after a day with this selected period has elapsed. While that’s still not as safe as some would like it to be, it’s an improvement over the rigid, lengthy one week option.
When WhatsApp first introduced the feature, the only switch available was a simple on / off switch. The new addition will also include a slightly optimized user interface.
While the extra time is welcome for those who want to keep group chats free of old messages, we recommend using a different messaging service if you really want private, vanishing texts. WhatsApp’s implementation still has flaws if privacy is your main concern.
There is no word on when the 24-hour option will be added to the existing one-week period. WABetaInfo assumes that it will be available in a “future update”.
