Who is Carla Gugino’s character?

In The Haunting of Hill House, the first in Mike Flanagan’s horror anthology, Gugino played Olivia, the mother of the Crain family. Here she plays the older version of Jamie, who tells the story of Bly Manor (1987 in London) at the wedding reception of Flora Wingrave (2007 in Northern California). In the end she realizes that her horror story is really a love story with the au pair Dani Clayton, played by Victoria Pedretti, aka Nell in Hill House.

Who is the yellow spectacle ghost?

The yellow spectacle ghost is the ghost of Dani’s fiancé Edmund, who tragically died after Dani broke off their engagement. Dani had been best friends with Edmund since childhood, but felt pressured by his family to remain in a relationship with him and ignored their sexuality. One night after Edmund discovers that Dani doesn’t want to marry him, they fight, causing Edmund to storm out of her car and into an oncoming truck. The glasses of his mind are scorched with the yellow glow of the lights.

How does Flora’s dollhouse work?

Because the young Flora can see the ghost of Rebecca Jessel and the lady in the lake, she puts talismans from them in her dollhouse and follows them wherever they are. The faceless ghost of a Victorian child who is friends with Flora also helps shift her position in the dollhouse. Flora and her brother Miles don’t want Dani to see the ghosts because Rebecca and the ghost of Peter Quint told them not to reveal their presence. They also fear Dani will be attacked by the lady who killed Quint.

Is Miles angry?

Although Miles became philosophical about evil in men, he did his best to get expelled from boarding school and return to his sister’s home in Bly. While all of his antics at school were his own, his creepy behavior towards Dani is due to Quint owning his body.

What happened to Rebecca Jessel?

Dani learns that the former governess Rebecca killed herself in the nearby lake. We later discover this wasn’t suicide after Rebecca was spurned by her lover Quint, who worked as a driver for the Wingraves. The night Quint convinces Rebecca to move to America with him, he meets the lady in the lake who kills him. After returning as a ghost to Rebecca, he owns her body and drowns her in the lake so they can take over the bodies of Flora and Miles and start a new life.

Was Hannah Grose dead all along?

When Dani first arrives at Bly Manor, she is greeted by the housekeeper, Mrs. Grose, who by this point is already a ghost. Shortly before Dani’s arrival, Hannah notices something strange about Miles, who has been acting since his return from boarding school. She wants to help him, does what he says, and follows him into the forest, where he pushes her down the well. Miles, of course, is owned by Quint. Hannah is immediately reborn as a ghost, but continues to pretend she is still alive and greets Dani a moment later. The crack she keeps seeing is a crack at the bottom of the well – the last thing she sees before she dies. She stays physical because she didn’t have the “moment” when she realized she was dead, especially because she’s with people who keep confirming who she believes she is.

Who is on the phone?

Dani and the gang initially believe Quint is alive and call the house to speak to Rebecca without realizing she is dead. But it really is Henry, the Wingraves’ uncle. Before the Wingrave parents died, Henry had an affair with his brother’s wife, Charlotte Wingrave, and Flora is actually his daughter. He calls the mansion and hopes Flora will pick it up.

What is “Dream Hopping”?

Dream hop is what Flora experiences when Rebecca owns her body. She puts Flora in happy memories of her mother, who gives her advice on how to make friends with a boy she runs into, also known as the Victorian Child. Flora realizes she is in a dream because she is reliving the memories at her current age, rather than much younger.

What happened to Hannah in episode 5?

In Episode 5, Hannah hops through her memories, including her first interview with Owen. However, this changes when she re-imagines it. She even ends up at the moment the lady kills Quint in Lake, which could possibly be the memory of the house itself. Hannah seems special and jumping into other people’s memories.

What was Peter Quint up to?

When Quint becomes a ghost, he begins to learn what he can and cannot do, including the fact that he can permanently own someone if he invites them. He has to do this soon because the ghosts at Bly will eventually lose all of their faces and memories. He persuades Rebecca to let him take over her body, but when he discovers that he still can’t leave Bly, he drowns her and turns her into a ghost. Despite their betrayed trust, she agrees to his new plan to own the Wingrave children so they can be together and keep the children in happy memories of their parents forever.

Who is the lady in the lake?

The Lady in the Lake is the ghost of Viola Willoughby, played by Kate Siegel, aka Theo from Hill House. She is the daughter of the owner of Bly Manor, who was murdered centuries ago by her own sister Perdita. Viola falls ill with a lung disease, but refuses to let a priest carry on her spirit. Finally Perdita can no longer stand Viola and suffocates Viola with a pillow. She marries Viola’s husband Arthur and takes care of her daughter Isabel. On the verge of bankruptcy, Perdita opens a chest of clothes and jewelry that Viola gave Isabel to sell. Viola’s ghost appears and kills Perdita. Arthur thinks the chest is cursed and sinks it in the lake. Now Viola’s faceless ghost emerges from the water at night, searches the mansion for her daughter and kills everyone on her way, even though she no longer has her memories. While their ghost remains there, anyone else who dies on the premises is trapped in their “gravity well” and cannot move any further.

What is Dani doing in the lake at the end?

After Dani Quint has heard at length how Flora and Miles can invite him and Rebecca into their bodies, he does the same with Viola in the lake to save Flora from drowning. This will free all of Bly’s captured spirits. But when Dani takes Viola into her body, one day she condemns herself to Viola and takes her over. After she and Jamie start a new life in America, Dani increasingly sees visions of Viola in her reflection. After Dani nearly strangles Jamie one night, she returns to Bly Manor, drowns in the lake, and continues Viola’s nightly hiking around the grounds.

How does Dani’s ghost return to Jamie in the hotel room?

Just as Dani and Henry see their own personal ghosts and supernatural doppelgangers, it’s possible that the ghost of Dani looking over the older version of Jamie in the hotel room is not the same ghost wandering the grounds of Bly. After all, the wedding reception is happening across America after Flora and Miles moved there with Henry to start a new life.
