In the early days of Android Wear, there were few decent smartwatch options – mostly from Motorola and LG. Since then, the platform has been renamed Wear OS, and many other companies have joined the Wear OS party. Fossil Gen 5
Wear OS needs an overhaul, but the Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch makes the most of a strange software situation with great hardware and performance. It has 1GB of RAM and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 3100 SoC, which means the performance is great.

The software is also positive. Google didn’t prioritize Wear OS as it should, but it’s nice to have quick access to the Google Assistant, Calendar, and other Google apps. The new “Tiling” function is impressive and makes navigation easier.
The Fossil Gen 5 isn’t cheap, but that’s the price you have to pay if you want the best Wear OS smartwatch.
The new TicWatch Pro 3 from Mobvoi is the first smartwatch with the new Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset from Qualcomm. Together with 1 GB of RAM, this makes for an overall good performance, at least in our short time with the device. The battery life seems to have improved too. Our own Oliver Cragg shows that a battery life of two days with normal smartwatch use could be possible.
