  • Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 FE 5G in India.
  • The phone swaps the Exynos 990 SoC of the 4G model for a Snapdragon 865 chipset.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE) in the second half of 2020, but the phone was available in 4G and 5G variants. At that time, only the 4G version made its way to India, but the Korean manufacturer has now officially launched the 5G model.

Of course, there are still no 5G networks in India. So this is more of a future proof case than you can take advantage of 5G now. A big reason to welcome the Galaxy S20 FE 5G’s release in the country is the processor.

The Galaxy S20 FE 4G offered Samsung’s in-house Exynos 990 chipset, while the 5G model delivers the Snapdragon 865 processor. Our own tests of the Exynos 990 versus the Snapdragon 865 showed a massive gap in GPU performance between the two SoCs, with the Qualcomm chipset having a huge lead. A speed test G we ran last year found that the Exynos 990-enabled Galaxy S20 Plus was worse than the Snapdragon 855-gripping Galaxy S10 5G in terms of GPU performance. Check it out below.

In other words, mobile gamers will want to choose the 5G model when they first consider the 4G version.

The Galaxy S20 FE 5G is otherwise identical to the 4G model. This means a 6.5 inch OLD screen with FHD + 120 Hz, protection class IP68, 8 GB RAM and 128 GB expandable storage. You also get this 4,500mAh battery with 25W wired charging capabilities, wireless charging, and support for wireless reverse charging.

The 5G variant from Samsung offers the same camera setup with a 32-megapixel selfie shooter and a versatile combination of a triple rear camera (12-megapixel main camera, 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, 8-megapixel 3X -Tele).

Samsung says the price of the Galaxy S20 FE 5G is pegged at Rs 55,999 (~ $ 762) but notes that you get Rs 8,000 (~ $ 109) in cashback straight away. This means that you are effectively paying Rs 47,999 (~ $ 653) instead. The phone is available through Samsung.com, Samsung Exclusive Stores, Amazon India and other retail partners. You can also get it in Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy, and Cloud Lavender color options.
