- Samsung has launched the Snapdragon 865 version of the Galaxy S20 FE 4G.
- The phone is identical to the Exynos and 5G models except for the lack of the Snapdragon X55 modem.
- It’s also expected to cost the same as the current Exynos 990 model.
Samsung has updated the Galaxy S20 FE with a new 4G model. Unlike the previous LTE variant of the phone with the Exynos 990 chipset, the new phone has a Snapdragon 865 processor.
The current 5G model, like the more expensive S20 series phones, has the Snapdragon 865. However, the new Galaxy S20 FE has the Snapdragon X55 modem, which enables 5G connectivity. Otherwise, both the 5G and 4G models of the phone are identical in terms of design and specifications.
Why did Samsung launch this model? For one, the Exynos 990 Galaxy S20 FE, which is sold in regions like India and Europe, is undoubtedly under-challenged when compared to its Snapdragon 865 processor. Updating the chipset is therefore a good step from Samsung. The global shortage of chipsets could have forced the company to make this change as well.
The old 4G model of the Galaxy S20 FE is expected to disappear from Samsung stores soon and be replaced by this new version.
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 4G price and specifications
The new Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 4G with the Snapdragon 865 SoC is expected to cost the same as its Exynos counterpart.
It is currently available in Malaysia (via Android Headlines) for 2,299 Ringgit (~ $ 560) with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The 12 GB RAM version costs 1,999 ringgits (~ $ 485).
The phone is also listed on Samsung’s websites in Germany and Sweden. However, the price is not mentioned in the listings. We assume it will be available from 599 euros, just like the existing Exynos model.
If you are not convinced of the new Galaxy S20 FE, then you should wait for the Galaxy S21 FE. The latest Fan Edition phone is expected to feature the flagship Snapdragon 888 SoC and should ideally be offered at an attractive price point. Given that the S21 series is already $ 200 cheaper than its predecessor, it will be interesting to see how low Samsung can get for the new FE.
