The Galaxy A82 could be seen as the successor to the Galaxy A80 from 2019. However, it appears that the phone is losing its funky camera system as the image shown in the Google Play Console list (see above) shows a device with a centered hole.
The listing also shows that the Galaxy A82 is powered by the SM8150p chipset, also known as the Snapdragon 855 Plus. Even if the flagship SoC is dated, you can expect it to do quite a bit of a lift in terms of overall performance. It’s also possible that the SM8150p silicon is the newer Snapdragon 860. Qualcomm officially equates both chipsets and they also have matching specifications.
Other specs featured in the listing include Android 11 support, 6GB of RAM, and a 2,400 x 1,080 display. Unfortunately no further information is available in the list. However, a previous leak suggested the device will receive a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 primary camera.
There’s no word yet about a global launch of the Galaxy A82, but it is expected to appear in Samsung’s home market as the Galaxy A Quantum 2. The name also appears on the latest list, suggesting the phone comes with a QNRG chip for added security.
The first Galaxy A Quantum was based on the Galaxy A71 5G, which was launched outside of South Korea without the QNRG chip. Samsung could pursue a similar strategy with the Galaxy A82. We just have to wait and see.
