Pinterest introduces Idea Pins, a video-first feature aimed at creators – ProWellTech

Pinterest continues to expand into the developer community with the launch of a video-first feature today called Idea Pins, aimed at developers who want to tell their stories using video, music, creative editing tools, and more. The feature is very reminiscent of Pinterest’s own version of TikTok, mixed with Stories, as the new Pins allow developers to create creative videos with up to 20 pages of content using tools like voice-over recording, background music, transitions, and other interactive elements record and edit.

The company states that Idea Pins evolved from its testing of Story Pins, which entered beta in September 2020 after various stages of development that began the previous year. At the time, Pinterest explained that story pins are different from stories on other social networks like Snapchat or Instagram because they focus on what people do – like trying new ideas or new products without you getting snapshots of them the personal life of a creator.

Another notable differentiator was that story pins weren’t short-lived. This means that they did not disappear after a certain time, but could be discovered by search and other detection mechanisms.

For the past eight months since its debut, Pinterest has been working with Story Pin developers on this experience. This led to the new concept of the Idea Pin – essentially a renamed Story Pin that now offers a wider range of editing tools than previously available.

Video is a key element in Idea Pins as the Pins target increased consumer demand for creative short-form video content – via TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and others, for example. The videos in the pins can be up to 60 seconds long for each page on iOS, Android, and the web, for a total of up to 20 pages per pin.

Creators can edit their videos by adding their own voice-over or using a “ghost mode” transition tool to better display their tweaks and upgrades by overlaying part of one video on top of another. And they can save drafts of their work in progress.

However, Idea Pins still contain a number of features that Stories have in common, such as: B. adding stickers or tagging other creators with an @username. Pinterest says it will start with over 100 stickers that feature hand-drawn illustrations that focus on the key categories and behaviors to expect, like food-themed illustrations, before and after stickers, seasonal moments, and more.

Pinterest is also working with the royalty-free music database Epidemic Sound to offer a catalog of free songs for use in Idea Pins.

And because many developers use idea pins to inspire people to try a recipe or project, they may have “detail pages” where viewers can find the ingredient list or instructions on what comes in handy.

Pins are shared on Pinterest, where the company states that they are helping the creator build an audience by distributing them to multiple places on their platform, including some markets, by finding Pins for creators you are on top of Follow home.

Creators can also apply topic tags when posting to ensure they show up when users search for such content. Each idea pin can contain up to 10 topic tags, which can be used to target the content to users via the home feed and search, according to the company.

While Pins can help developers build audiences on Pinterest, they can use Idea Pins to grow their audience on other platforms as well. The company offers export options that allow users to share their Pins over the internet and social media. To do this, they download their pin as a video that includes a Pinterest watermark and profile name – a trick TikTok learned. This can then be shared again elsewhere.

Pinterest users can save Idea Pins like any other Pin on the platform.

From creators to hobbyists to publishers, Pinterest is a place where anyone can post great ideas and discover inspirational content. We have creators with extraordinary ideas on Pinterest, and Idea Pins allow creators to share their passions and inspire their audiences, ”he added.

The new Idea Pin format launches today for all developers (users with a business account) in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

According to Pinterest, tests found that Idea Pins were more appealing than standard Pins, with 9 times the average comment rate. The number of Idea Pins (formerly known as Story Pins) has also increased fourfold since January as more and more developers adopted the format.

To help developers track the performance of Pins, Pinterest is adding a new metric to its Analytics functionality that depends on followers and profile visits to show developers how their Idea Pins led to a deeper loyalty to their account to have.

The company says the next step is to make Idea Pins more shippable, which is now with ongoing product labeling tests.

Pinterest has been ramping up its investment in the creator community over the past few months, launching for the first time Creator Fund last month and this month’s test of livestream events with 21 creators. It is also now testing developer and brand collaboration with a select number of developers, including Domonique Panton, Peter Som and GrossyPelosi, it says.

While Idea Pins seem like a natural lynchpin in the founding of Pinterest as a board of inspiration and ideas, it will face serious competition when it comes to promoting its platform to the professional developer community.
