The UK has approved a COVID-19 vaccine. British nursing home residents, older adults and healthcare workers will first be vaccinated with the groundbreaking vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech to address the problem Coronavirus pandemic.
The UK government has reassured the public that the vaccine is safe after going through rigorous clinical trials with the results analyzed by the National Medicines Agency. As early as next week, 800,000 doses will be distributed to those in need of protection, while the majority of the population will be vaccinated in the New Year.
The vaccine is one of several in development as the world’s scientists fight the pandemic. It was developed by the German biotech company Biotech and the US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer the first vaccine to use cutting-edge mRNA genetic material fight the disease. The treatment is reported to be over 90% effective.
The vaccine must be stored at a temperature of -70 degrees Celsius (-94 degrees Fahrenheit). Therefore, it is expected to be administered in hospitals first until appropriate storage is introduced elsewhere.
The The US is studying the Pfizer vaccine and a similar one Vaccine developed by Moderna. The US Food and Drug Administration is expected to follow the UK to approve one or more of the treatments soon.
Russia and China have already approved vaccines, but without large-scale testing.
