Orb Meat: An internet speed test that I have ever used before,

Orb takes a holistic approach to testing your internet connectivity. Screenshot/Orb

I recommend internet speed test, which I experience unavoidable home internet recession. In fact, I have tested and used dozens of internet speed tests – the market is very saturated with them. Ideally, the best internet speed test is one that easily diagnoses your bandwidth blues as easily-no advertisement, no additional features that you cannot understand and slow down your Wi-Fi.

The speed test in home internet space is nothing new, but then, I have never used the speed test like or before.

Meet orb

The creators of the industry's most popular speed test, Okla rolled the Orb in late April. ,

The orb is a sophisticated speed test application. It does not just test your download and upload speed; It measures the overall health of your home network, using several matrix and continuous speed tests.

Orb co-founder and CEO Dug Satles says that Orb is not actually a speed test.

“We are not a speed test, this is the best way to put it,” Suttles tells me. “We have speed test functionality, but we focus far more on accountability.”

What does the orb track do?

The orb uses some different matrix to measure accountability. You can see what your best (and worst) lag time looks.

Accountability – which includes measurements such as differences, delay, nervousness and packet loss – the main metric orb uses to rate your internet connection. Reliability, or accountability of the network over time, and speeds are secondary measures that take into account ORB.

“It is a separate side of the broadband that we are focusing on,” says Satalals. “The things we made in our previous company were perfect for the time when we made them, when the broadband was in its early stage and you needed to measure the throwkut first and first.”

With the increase in data usage and increase in the pace of the Internet, our life is more connected than ever – and alone speed is not the only factor in recognizing a good internet plan.

I often see when reviewing home internet plans: while most internet shopkeepers mainly focus on speed and cost, hosting other factors, beyond advertised maximum speed, determine whether a connection is reliable or consistent.

Orb president and co-founder Jamie Steven says that a reliable internet connection, not only a sharp, is important for the house located in his home.

“The connection will go down all the time,” Steven says, “The speed was not always or much, it was not the issue. The issue was credibility and accountability.”

Suttles and steven compare specific internet motion tests to measure the top speed of a car. Instead of fully focusing on speed, orb focuses on whether your internet stall or how quickly it can accelerate.

Additionally, Steven noted that the top speed of most cars is impractical for everyday use.

“It's not what you are doing day to day,” Steven says, referring to maximum internet speed. “For us, it was more about the constant measurement of your internet experience.”

How does orb works?

Orb also measures its extreme speed along with the current speed of your internet.

A part of the simplicity of the orb has the ability to run those constant motion tests, rather than just running speed tests when you are experiencing delay or hindrance. My first idea was that from such a point of view it would put a hit on someone's bandwidth. But the speculations assured me that Orb uses much smaller payload (about 10MB) than the popular motion testing options. For rural internet users such as Steven, this light payload makes all differences in keeping its internet connection stable.

If you want to give a stress test to your Internet, the orb comes with a “peak speed” function to test your network's ability, but it is not a constant test.

Each device you connect to your internet acts as an “orb” or “sensor” that tests your internet connection. You can also set a dedicated device for your network, 24/7 continuous monitoring.

There is a negative side for arb as compared to other speed tests: you cannot run a test in a browser. You have to download the application on a device (which can be anything from spare smartphone to raspberry pie). Once you create an account, you can basically download orb to do anything with a hard drive – and easily you can easily do your internet issues in different rooms, as well.

The orb is completely independent and easy to use. A few weeks ago, I installed it on my phone and personal computer and used it to test my fiber internet connection. Using a scale of 0 to 100, Orb gives your internet a rating that is very easy to understand: Red (0 to 49) means poor performance and green (90 to 100) means that your internet is performing excellent. My internet connection gets a solid 90 most time – not bad for the cheapest speed tier of AT&T.

“We want consumers to use it because these are problems that we are at home in the founding team,” says Steven. “We want it to be free forever.”

“The manufacture of a brand in the manufacture of a brand has more value in the manufacture of a brand, which is quite clearly, we are very emotional, we want to overcome it anyway,” Suttles notes.

I used Orb to test the internet connection in my office and I was getting speed in the living room where I have TV. The two tests usually showed the results according to what I was watching using Ocla.

You can add many devices to your ORB network as you want; They will all play a role in measuring your internet connectivity.

The orb is still in its early stages-while it is an effective tool to understand how your internet connection works, the app has some features that will make it even more user friendly, such as the ability to reach historical data (similar to Ookla).

“Orb locally records all data first …” Steven Note. “We had not yet presented it to the UI, but it was something that we were very emotional. We did not need a cloud connectivity to be able to see the past.”

Perhaps most importantly, orb will eventually begin to release recipes to measure the connectivity of specific applications or services such as Microsoft Teams or Slack and eventually, even specific Internet services.

“Different web services use a variety of protocols,” Steven says. “So zoom can use this special RTSP protocol – can my connection open that port for that service? Is it accessible? What is its accountability?”

Under the street, the Sutles and the Steven community want to use orb to make ways to measure different “recipes” and recruitment by the community.

“At its core, Orb is actually a recipe engine,” says Sutals. “Our vision is to release and share new cuisine, then the community has started making them.”

final thoughts

The Internet is not getting any cheaper, and while it can be attractive to just buy more speeds, first there are simple ways to diagnose and promote your connection. While the ORB (and internet) continues to develop, it is a good idea that the overall sense of connectivity of your network, beyond speed.
