  • OnePlus pulled the Android 12 beta for its phones.
  • Numerous owners of the OnePlus 9 series complained about brick-built devices.
  • The problem could be due to users forgetting to unlock their phone bootloader.

OnePlus is one of around a dozen manufacturers participating in the beta program for Android 12 and giving enthusiasts an early impression of the new Android version before the stable release. Unfortunately, it turns out that OnePlus has stopped beta for its phones due to serious issues.

The company announced in its forum (h / t: 91mobile) that the Android 12 beta download links for the OnePlus 9 series are being pulled “based on user feedback on this thread”.

Users on the thread had noticed that their phones wouldn’t go past the “copy data” page even if they chose not to copy any data. Others noticed the same problem and that restarting the phone resulted in a boot loop. Some people also resorted to rebooting via Power + Volume Down, but the phones still wouldn’t move past the “Copy Data” screen.

Android police claims that the problem occurs when a user forgets to unlock their bootloader and suggests that affected users try a specific Unbrick tool. XDA developer provides instructions on how to use the tool that uses Qualcomm chipset’s emergency download mode to remove a device.

It’s worth noting that you probably shouldn’t be installing a beta update on your primary phone unless you are prepared for such issues. So you might want to be stuck with your daily driver included in the beta program.
