LiftMaster’s smart garage opener would ruin Ferris Bueller’s day off
LiftMaster has a new garage door opener. That wouldn’t normally be exciting news, but the company has added a nifty, modern twist that makes the Secure View Garage Opener far more intriguing than any other opener that was before it. Sorry Bueller, but that would absolutely ruin your day.
On Tuesday, LiftMaster launched its intelligent garage door opener, which has an integrated camera and a bidirectional communication function. A classic film showed how well the technology works. If you haven’t seen Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the quick view doesn’t mean nearly as much, but essentially two teenagers are trying to recreate the famous scene from the movie while trying to record onefor a joyride.
It doesn’t take long before Alan Ruck, who played Bueller’s sidekick Cameron Frye in the 1986 film, turns on the LiftMaster Smart Garage camera. It’s a bit like the dull oneCommercials in which homeowners put an end to potential misconduct, but the Bueller association gives LiftMaster a more carefree tone.
So, yeah, I’ll dig the ad. It is well done. In terms of technology, the camera of the Smart Garage Opener comes from MyQ, which began developing smart home and garage technology back in 2011. The built-in camera surpasses the typical features, however. It is entirely possible to recreate this type of setup with a separate camera, but the automatic pairing between the camera and garage door should make the system pretty seamless. It works with too to give the deliverers one-time access to the garage. The worker drops the package in the garage, you get a notification, and everything is fine.
The Secure View garage opener is now available to keep curious children away from your precious classic car.
