Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 hands-on review: Gaming on the cheap

Lenovo is spraying its entry-level gaming system with design and functions, usually reserved for its premium legend brand laptop. Ideapad gaming 3 and 3i laptops will be available in AMD and Intel Core processor configuration respectively and are 15-inch display options, but will get the real taste of Lenovo's high-end gaming features for the first time.

IdeaPad Gaming is the major ports behind the largest upgrade system on 3. It is a direct trickle-down feature from the legend brand design to entry-level laptop. These models also include USB ports on both sides for tasks such as mouse peripheral or USB sticks, which users can quickly plugin. In comparison, the previous IdeaPad Gaming 3 generation depicted all its ports on their sides.

I got the opportunity to handle the Ideapad Gaming 3 15-inch and 16-inch models and what I was killed first was how light they are for their size, while still feeling strong. The Ideapad Gaming 3 has a minimal design with a very subtle branding placement. Outside the Lenovo tag on the base, there is an IdeaPad gaming tag at the opening.

The 15 -inch model glacier white and onyx gray color options will be available in a 16 -inch model in onyx gray. The white model has a more plastic look, which is likely to be contrary to its dark bezels against its keyboard. Meanwhile, dark colored models go away with much greater smooth looks, and the more high end due to having the same tone around.

Again, after adopting the design features from Lenovo's premium laptop, the Ideapad Gaming 3 includes adding aesthetics like a gamer, in addition to adding aesthetics, its cooling and ventilation updates include blue accents in the back to complement updates.

Display

There is a slight difference in the context of the display in the laptop model. The small variant has a 15.6 -inch FHD IPS display with 16: 9 aspect ratio and 300 NITS brightness, while the larger version has a 16 -inch WHD+ IPS display with 16:10 aspect ratio and 500 NITS brightness. Display panels on both size options provide 165Hz refresh rates and 100% SRGB color surge.

At first glance, the wallpaper used on the Ideapad Gaming 3 models appears to pop up with color. Color is a good deal of saturation, especially unlike the colors of the laptop. Once I started handling the equipment, the color also got caught. In particular, I saw Fortnite Video game trailer on YouTube on a 16 -inch model.

These may not be the most bright performance on the market, but they may also depend on the level of light in your area.

Keyboard and trackpad

The Ideapad Gaming 3 includes a full -sized keyboard and a large trackpad, which also reminds the premium legend brand design. Additionally, it is the air intake vent in the keyboard, which is similar to the premium model to help keep the device cool. There is also blue backlighting under the keys, which further adds to the gamer beauty. The keys are spring and easy to handle themselves.

Meanwhile, the open space left due to large trackpad can create a strange access in handling. Lenovo may try to compensate after complaints that the keyboard was very crowded on the former generation. This may be something to investigate in long -term reviews.

Port and connectivity

One of the primary complaints on the former generation Ideapad Gaming 3i was that it did not have enough ports, in particular, USB-A port. Lenovo removed it by placing a USB 3.2 General 1 Type-A port on all models of Ideapad Gaming 3 and Ideapad Gaming 3I.

In addition to the 3.5 mm audio jack and a USB-A port on the right model of Ideapad Gaming 3 16-inch and 15-inch, there is a USB-A port on their left. The rear port set for both models supports a USB 3.2 General 2 Type-C (which Thunderbolt 4, Displayport 1.4, and Power Delivery 3.0), HDMI 2.0, RJ 45, and DC-in.

Connectivity for Ideapad Gaming 3 goes up to Wi-Fi 6 and starts at Bluetooth 5.0. I was able to get a device attached to Wi-Fi at the last minute to test it out and I had no problem to load pages or videos while watching trailers on YouTube.

Performance and battery life

Lenovo uses slightly different naming conferences to differentiate between two processor models. Ideapad Gaming 3 includes AMD Ryzentm 6000 Series Processor and Ideapad Gaming 3i contains 12th gene Intel Korom i7H-series processor. Overall, the purpose of components is to perform equally.

The 15-inch model contains a 60 watt-gentle or 45 watt-gentle battery, depending on whether they are four-cells or three-cell components. These models also support the rapid charge in 15 minutes to add 40% charge to the battery.

The 16-inch model has a 71 watt-pure-hour battery, which supports the Rapid Charge Pro in 30 minutes to add 50% charge to the battery.

To customize cooling on the laptop, Lenovo has added quad rear vents to the system. Once again, a feature that is adopted from the premium line of the brand, Lenovo claims that these laptops have 20% better ventilation than the previous generation, in which rear vents are working closely with the front cooling from the keyboard.

Price and availability

The 15 -inch Ideapad Gaming with AMD processor will begin on 3 May 2022, which will be with a starting price of $ 930, while the 16 -inch Ideapad Gaming with AMD processor will be available in 3 June 2022 with a starting price of $ 1,140 in 3 June 2022.
