The Redmi Note series is Xiaomi’s bread and butter. Numerous devices have been shipped since the first device launched in 2014. One of the most popular devices in this range is the Redmi Note 8, and Xiaomi has now officially confirmed the Redmi Note 8 is coming in 2021.
Xiaomi made the announcement on twitter after claiming that the Redmi Note 8 has sold 25 million units worldwide to date. It is unclear whether this number includes both the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro, or just the vanilla model. Check out a screenshot of the post below.
Even so, we have already heard some rumors about the Redmi Note 8 2021. The XiaomiUI Telegram group previously claimed that the device had a 120Hz IPS LCD screen, a MediaTek Helio G85 processor (in line with the Redmi Note 9), a 4,000mAh battery and a 22.5W charge. The group also expects the new phone to include a 48-megapixel quad camera setup (main, ultra-wide, tele-macro, depth).
The Note 8 2021 also appears to have appeared on the Bluetooth SIG website with the model number M1908C3JGG, MIUI 12 or higher, and Bluetooth 5.2.
While there is no word on what the phone will look like, keeping the same design could theoretically result in a lower manufacturing cost, and therefore a more attractive price point. It wouldn’t be the first time a manufacturer has updated a popular model for a new year, as Huawei has already done so with its P20 Lite phones. But the updated Huawei phones also offered an optimized design.
