Hyundai Turns Its Electric Car Ioniq Into A Sub-Brand: Reveals 3 New EVs
The Hyundai Ioniq electric car sub-brand will produce three new electric vehicles. The company will launch three new electric cars over the next four years. However, there is a little twist. These electric cars will be sold under a new Ioniq sub-brand despite the fact that an electric sedan of the same name already exists. In other words, the Hyundai Ioniq electric sedan is now a sub-brand representing the electric division of Hyundai.
The three electric cars the South Korean manufacturer is planning include a sedan, a sedan and an SUV. The electric sedan will be known as the Ioniq 5, similarly, the sedan and SUV will continue the series with the names Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 7 respectively.
Apart from that, Hyundai has two mainstream electric cars in its portfolio: Hyundai Kona EV and Hyundai Ioniq. However, it is not known whether Hyundai Kona will be sold independently or under the new subdivision.
Hyundai electric car sub-brand
According to sourcesThe Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be based on the Hyundai 45 electric hatchback concept. In contrast, the Hyundai Prophecy electric sports sedan will take the name Ioniq 6. However, there has been no confirmation regarding the Ioniq 7 electric SUV.
Hyundai has revealed the launch schedule for these electric vehicles. Ioniq 5 will likely be released in early 2021, Ioniq 6 in 2022, and Ioniq 7 will launch sometime in 2024.
In addition, Hyundai’s new Global Electric Modular Platform (E-GMP) will support the Ioniq series of electric cars.
Other than that, we know very little about the technical specifications of these cars. However, the conceptual aspect of both the sedan and the sedan indicates that they will be sportier than current Hyundai electric vehicles.
With Hyundai Kona EV and Ioniq EV, the automaker has demonstrated its ability to provide affordable and fuel efficient electric vehicles. We hope that upcoming electric cars will be even more impressive than the existing ones.
