Grell TWS/1 review: Quirky buds with quality sound

What's in the box

I always like when no earbud manufacturer sees fit to include foam tips in the box because they make a tight seal compared to standard silicone. design

It is clear from the beginning that Gril did not prefer to look good as other manufacturers. It is not that earbuds are ugly – they are not. They are just thick and look more unpleasant at first glance. They are also slightly weighing compared to others. I came with a feeling that TWS/1 was not actually made for people with small ears, and while inside there is a pair of small earcrips, I will not trust them if you had trouble with big buds before before.

Small stem is not so much for airpods, as it is a way to work onboard mix to take its voice during calls. Abnormal design, with its large spherical outer shell, gives the assumption that they cannot keep without fasting on your part, but lubricate balanced things to help offset it. The middle part that sits between the outer shell and the tip tolerates most weight, and since it rests on the inner folds of the antitragus of the ear where it meets the ear canal, it nesks quite well. This is such that how you sit on a seat, which is the contour, which is slightly sinking due to the space that occupies you.

There are also drivers and audio elements in the middle part, which leaves the outer shell to act as a touch-sensitive control pad. Those controls take time to find out because they are ambitious and all are multidimensional at once. It was annoying to learn to reduce these controls due to false positivity. I tried to enable ANC, only accidentally to turn the NAR. I tried to reduce the volume, only sometimes to stop the playback by mistake. There is no app to go around it, either, because Grell TWS/1 does not have its own dedicated app; They use Sonarworks Soundid instead.

Another thing that was standing for me was how earbuds were oriented in the charging case. Look closely and you see that the right is on the right, with the left earbud on the right. I think it was the best way to fit them neatly, but after initially messing it up, I did not think twice and knew which side was the earbad, which was for which side to take them out or put them back.

Where sounded comes

TWS/1 does not give you EQ adjustment or preset. Instead, Grily has partnered with Sonarworks, whose sounding app can be used to adapt to the sound more individually. The app also works with other sounded-compatible earbuds. Sounded runs you through a series of A/B tests to gauge your sound preferences. The differences in some tests seem subtle, but as you move together, they become more noticeable. When all are said and done, the app has produced a sound profile individually for your taste, which is later uploaded to TWS/1.

Although you can turn on and off the sounded profile, you can't get it tweet. Without EQ, you cannot adjust it, and if you want to change it, you will have to undergo the same test again. For me, however, I liked the result – so much that I was satisfied with sound in different types of styles.

Cancellation of that noise

Although it is not uncommon to see various levels of noise canceling, it is rare to see two different versions. Grill's male ANC decreases low-existence, adding an additional layer to the top to try high-existing sounds. Honestly, it was difficult to ensure that the difference between them was all unique, although I hope that Grill would try to refine it with the growing firmware updates. This is a good idea, and one is that I will follow myself with curiosity.

By and large, ANC performance is equal with good earbuds, but Sony will not match the outstanding results from WF -1000XM4 or Bose Quitcomfort Earbuds. Even when adding the NAR to the mixture, the positive results are not strong enough to insert TWS/1 on a noisy-dead pedestal.

Despite this, I cannot understand the benefits of incorporating foam tips because they can do a wonderful job with passive isolation. The way they can distort and nest in the ear canal, they cannot even do some silicone tips. The only thing that can come in the game in terms of the effectiveness of that passive isolation is the sheer shape of earbuds, which is going to be subjective.

Transparency is fine to allow ambient noise when you need it. And you will need it because removing an earbud is not very convenient – Grill did not put a wear sensor to stop automatically to remove the bud from your ear.

sound quality

Grell shows your engineering chops with a default sound, even if you interpret it as a safe balance that does not slan a way or the other. The Soundid app pulls more capacity here, and does not hurt that some other glasses come into the game.

TWS/1 AAC, APTX supports adaptive, and LHDC, which includes a lot of base. And with providing a solid connection with Bluetooth 5.2, good pieces are in place, whether you are iOS or Android users. This is sufficient to handle the APTX adaptive and LHDC support 24-bit/96 kHz to handle the hi-race audio (assuming that your phone supports those codec, of course).

I regularly heard the tunes on the tidal to push Grill's earbuds and saw what they could do. The impressive part, for me, how well he handled the mids, actually brought out equipment and resonance in a variety of tracks. Even better, I did not have to compromise for less, if I decided to switch styles and move from R&B to modern Jazz, or from classic rock to 70s.

Di, some of these fine details are about to come out to listen to the tidal, but I did not disappoint what I heard in Spotify or Apple Music. Again, at least for me, foam tips helped distribute solid climb due to tight seals, allowing high and MIDS to breathe. There was a strange moment I would hear some sibilance, but it was not a normal phenomenon. Overall, it was easy to like the ongoing audio fidelity here, and I will put them there with the choice of Sony, Bose and Senaizer.

The results were also really good with ANC and NAR, even though they did not completely exclude all background sounds. By the time I was honored with a loud construction site or angry drivers during the crowd time, it was usually music for my ears.

The phone calls will need to be pacified, although in good conditions, you should have no problem with clarity. It is likely that earbuds may be shifted slowly and may be loose from your jaw while talking, and I had to be careful that the call should not be finished by accidentally pushing them back to eliminate the call. This happened to me twice, so I was careful every time after that.

Grell TWS/1 has an IPX4 rating, which is not great for me, sweaty workouts and runs. As good as I feel, I do not see them as an ideal choice for harsh workouts. Other people may disagree, but I look at it from a longer-term view, where repeated contact with water and sweat will break the earbuds that are not too rugged.

battery life

Grell TWS/1 is up to six hours per charge with ANC, and with it at a rate of up to eight hours. Since you are not necessarily crank the volume, the number is sufficient, but not impressive with today's standards. The higher the volume, the more battery life, which is lost with the buds of any pair. I found that I usually got between five and six hours per charge with ANC.

There are four additional charges in the case, which is a good way to justify the large case, and it is compatible with QE Wireless Chargers for additional convenience. You can always plug through USB-C, although I did not hold any fast charging.

To appreciate the Grile Tws/1 you do not need to be an audio purist, but you have to demand a better sound quality to identify what makes them good. If you feel that your ears are on the small side, their size can create a challenge, yet, they perform enough to consider warrant as the buds you have chosen when listening to their favorite tunes.

Is there a better option?

Standard one year warranty will not protect them from physical damage, only functional issues, so keep it in mind.

Should you buy them?

Yes. Grell TWS/1 does not hide its actual purpose, which is to focus on the quality of sound above all other things, and they correct by it. The only major challenge is whether your ears will feel that they are very cumbersome to wear regularly.
