Amazon / Remington

The Remington hair dryer is a great traditional hair dryer option for a basic hair dryer that will perform well, protect your hair, and won’t break the bank. The hairdryer has an anti-damage coating and three different heat settings. It also comes with two attachments, a diffuser and a concentrated nozzle for two styling preferences. “This is a decent, affordable dryer with the latest technology to keep hair healthy,” says Shelly Aguirre, stylist at Maxine Salon in Chicago.

Personally, I prefer a more powerful hairdryer as I have thick, coarse, curly hair and it takes a lot of strength and heat to bring it into a smooth blowout. But for a budget dryer, this one is light and gets quite hot, which is great for straightening strands.

The Remington hair dryer is the best option for those on a budget or rarely using a hair dryer. Someone who has short, fine, thin hair, or who doesn’t use a blow dryer, would appreciate this high quality hair dryer.

Amazon

The BaBylissPro dryer is a mid-range option that has similar performance to its over $ 100 counterparts. When I tried the ceramic dryer myself, I was impressed by the drying power in such a slim and relatively compact design. The dryer comes with a concentrated nozzle attachment (not a diffuser) that you should be aware of. You get the three standard heat settings – hot, warm and cold – as well as two different speed settings.

“This is another affordable dryer, but it still performs well, which makes it a good bang for your buck,” says Aguirre. For $ 60, you can get a great hair dryer – stylist approved! – and you can be sure that the ceramic technology will not damage your hair any more than necessary.

Sephora

DryBar is known for making blowing out salons an experience (complete with rom-coms and wine), and you can bring some of that experience home with their professional blow dryer.

The Buttercup hair dryer is the same professional hair dryer that DryBar stylists use in the salon. It has an extremely powerful motor and wave heater to distribute the heat evenly and dry your hair faster. The brand promises that at $ 199, the dryer will get you a frizzy blowout 20% faster than other professional hair dryer options.

When I tried the Buttercup blow dryer, I was impressed with how comfortably the dryer was able to hold and style my hair – it’s not ergonomically awkward, bulky, or too heavy. I have a lot of hair, so I need something relatively light.

The dryer definitely supplies electricity and heat. I was able to get my hair straight and dry quickly using the dryer with the concentrator nozzle and a round brush.

If you’ve had a blowout at DryBar before, loved the results, and want to try and get the same result at home, you are a fan of this hair dryer.

Dyson’s Supersonic hair dryer goes way beyond that in terms of style and function. When I turned the dryer on for the first time, I was amazed – this is unlike any hair dryer I’ve ever used before. The motor is super powerful and blows an intense jet of air that dries the hair quickly.

I first used it without an attachment to roughly dry my hair and then attached one of the nozzles to concentrate the heat with a round brush. The attachments (there are a variety of nozzles and a diffuser) are very easy to use and can be attached to the nozzle almost immediately via a magnet.

Aside from the fact that it looks (and sounds) super cool, this dryer delivers when it comes to hair styling and function. There are four heating levels and three speeds. The high speed and heat setting probably dries hair faster than anything you’ve tried before – it’s worth it if you have hair that takes forever to dry (like mine) and use a blow dryer every day. This could be a real game changer for your morning routine.

Dyson claims that the dryer can prevent hair damage because it contains technology that controls overheating of the hair. It is also celebrity stylist approved. “My favorite blow dryer is the Dyson dryer because it delivers just the right amount of heat with the least amount of damage,” Justin Anderson, prominent hairdresser and co-founder of DPHue, told CNET.

DevaCurl

One of the hardest things about curly hair is taming unruly frizz and getting definition in your locks. It takes a combination of good products to style curls – and the DevaCurl dryer is a complement for those with curls who want to use a dryer made specifically for their hair. Many people with curly hair can air dry and walk – but sometimes you need to dry your hair quickly or you want some extra definition and volume that a diffuser can help.

Although the dryer itself is designed to use ion generator technology that won’t fry your hair, the star of the DevaCurl hair dryer is really the diffuser. You can purchase a universal dryer attachment for other dryers, although the one that came with the DevaCurl dryer is only suitable for that particular dryer.

I have to admit that I almost gave up being happy with my natural curls until I tried this diffuser. I don’t like air drying my hair because it contains so much water and it lasts forever. But when I tried the DevaCurl diffuser, it really helped me tame and dry my curls without making my hair huge.

It is a little difficult to learn to use the diffuser, but since it is shaped like a hand, you can get the hang of it pretty quickly. Depending on the result you want, you can either rake the diffuser through your hair to soothe curls or use it to “cup” them from the bottom, which gives them some volume. The hand shape also makes it easy to reach your roots without messing up your curls, which is next to impossible with most diffusers.

For someone who uses a diffuser or is about to try one out soon, the DevaCurl drying kit is a good investment in the essentials you need (you also get a concentrator nozzle for drying your hair straight). If you already have a blow dryer that you love but is interested in the diffuser, save some money and order the diffuser attachment for your current dryer.

How to buy a hair dryer

As technology has brought even more benefits and features to hair dryers, Aguirre says there are a few things to keep in mind when shopping. “I blow dry up to 15 people a day, so the ergonomics and the technology behind the dryer mean a lot to me,” she says. “Most dryers these days offer ceramic, tourmaline, and ionic benefits.”

So everyone compares according to Aguirre:

Ionic hair dryer: Negative ions break up the positive ions in the water faster, prevent ripples and speed up the drying time.

Ceramic: Generates infrared heat that penetrates the hair shaft and preserves the hair’s natural moisture and shine. The advantage of a ceramic hair dryer is that it heats up quickly and evenly on its surface.

Tourmaline: A mineral that produces negative ions when heated, which closes the hair cuticle and creates straight hair.

“The nozzle on the dryer is also very important – don’t remove it (like most people do),” says Aguirre. “Your cuticles are like shingles on a roof and you want to make sure the cuticles are on top of itself. You can achieve this by pointing the nozzle down at the ends of your hair. This increases shine and body and makes the die Hair looks super shiny. This may seem a bit uncomfortable at first, but put your arms up and you will definitely notice a difference right away. “

How much should you spend on a hair dryer?

How much you spend on a hairdryer depends on what type of dryer you want, how much electricity you need, and what other specifics are important to you. If you have very short hair, you may not have to invest as much in a dryer as someone who has very long hair or a thick type of hair that needs a lot more strength to dry quickly. If you have very straight or thinner hair, you don’t need the same dryer as someone who has curly hair and wants to get it straight.

“The reason prices vary so much is because some dryers may have a ceramic coating, while a more expensive version is actually 100% ceramic,” says Aguirre. “I am informing my customers that if the dryer they use at home was purchased more than five years ago, it is time to invest in a new dryer as the technology is vastly improved over the previous tool Take you years. “
