  • Belkin 30W GaN Wall Charger: $ 30 / £ 35 / € 40

The Belkin 30W GaN Charger is only available in white and is available in North America and the European market. The product comes with a fixed regional plug type, so there are no interchangeable regional plugs.

Belkin’s 30W GaN charger supports 5V, 3A, 9V, 3A, 15V, 2A, and 20V, 1.5A charging and is compatible with a wide variety of smartphones and other modern devices Devices. The small wall plug from Belkin is equipped with GaN transistors (Sporting Gallium Nitride) and offers 30 W of power in a 40 x 39 x 40 mm housing that protrudes from the wall. It’s pretty small. GaN should also be more energy efficient. That’s why we tested the plug’s charging efficiency, which is an impressive 82-85% with minimal waste of energy.

What is good?

To call this charger compact is an understatement. The Belkin 30W GaN Charger is tiny and extremely portable. Perfect when you want a small charger to fit in your pocket on the go, or when you want to replace an aging power brick.

USB Power Delivery 3.0 support is great for quickly charging a wide variety of devices, including Apple’s iPhone series, Google’s Pixel phones, and tablets like Microsoft’s Surface Pro X. 30W is more than enough to power most smartphones cover, and is suitable for charging some devices tablets and a Nintendo Switch too. Loading speeds are reasonable, but not as fast as some of the proprietary standards you’ll find there. However, this is a small price to pay for a charger that covers all of your USB-C devices.

What’s not so good?

Belkin claims its 30W charger will bring a MacBook Air to 50% capacity in 70 minutes. However, this is an ultra-thin laptop with a fairly small battery, and even then you will look closer to three hours to get a full charge. Larger laptops last even longer, so this is definitely not a product for laptops with large batteries or even fast-charging tablets.

While Belkin’s support for USB PD 3.0 is good, the charger isn’t future-proof as it supports the USB PD PPS (USB Power Delivery Programmable Power Supply) protocol. This is required by smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S21 series to be charged at full speed. As you can see in the table below, these models charge with just 15W instead of a maximum power of 25W.

You might think a 30W charger would have got you covered, but the confusing state of USB-C means it’s not the case here. Hence, those looking for a future proof charger will want to find one that supports PPS. That being said, Belkin’s tiny GaN charger does everything you need.

The Belkin 30W GaN Wall Charger delivers plenty of power for most users in an ultra-compact form factor, and does it very well. Most USB-C smartphones and some more powerful portable devices with adequate battery capacities offer you 30 W via USB Power Delivery.

Belkin’s value proposition is also fairly fair at $ 30, but there is a small mark-up in favor of cutting-edge GaN technology. Especially since you have to bring your own USB-C cable. The Elecjet 45W USB PD PPS, albeit larger, offers more power for $ 25. Or, you can buy Samsung’s official 25W USB PPS charger for $ 20, which isn’t much bigger than the Belkin’s.

Overall, the Belkin 30W GaN charger is a great choice for travelers or those looking to tidy up their bulkier electrical outlets. But it’s not the best deal, especially for European customers.
