- Asus confirmed the launch date of the Asus Zenfone 8 in a physical invitation.
- The invitation also makes it very clear that the rumored “mini” version is real – although it seems to be bigger than many would have hoped.
- The smartphone will start on May 12, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. (CET).
Rumors have been circulating for months that Asus wants to bring a smaller version of its upcoming smartphone series onto the market. Well, in a physical invitation Telephone arenawe can fully confirm that this is the case.
In addition, the invitation confirms the launch date of the Asus Zenfone 8: May 12, 2021, 1:00 p.m. (CET).
The invitation makes the name of the phone series clear, with the Zenfone 8 branding playing a prominent role. The package also contains a telephone-shaped plastic cutout that could exactly match the dimensions of the alleged “mini” version. Telephone arena indicates that the size of the cutout is 148 x 69 mm.

That would make the phone about the size of the vanilla iPhone 12, not the iPhone 12 Mini. Even so, the iPhone 12 is quite small compared to most Android phones. The Samsung Galaxy S21, for example, is 151 x 71 mm, so this Asus Zenfone 8 variant should be a bit smaller.

Now it is possible that the vanilla Zenfone 8 is actually indicated here and that there will be a separate, smaller variant. However, it seems strange to Asus to overdo the compactness of this phone when an even more compact one was in the works. We therefore assume that this excerpt represents the dimensions of the “mini” variant that we have heard rumors about.
Regardless, we’ll find out what’s really in stock on May 12th. Stay tuned!
