- The renders for the upcoming Asus Zenfone 8 and Asus Zenfone 8 Flip have just been leaked.
- The renders show that the flip model retains the iconic funky camera, but the vanilla model does not.
- There are some specs for this leak as well.
Next week, Asus will be launching the newest of its Zenfone flagships. Many thanks to Ishan Agarwal (and 91 cell phones) we now have some renders and specs for the unannounced phones a little earlier than planned.
So far we have information about two of the new Zenfone models: the vanilla Zenfone 8 and the Asus Zenfone 8 Flip. The former was (obviously) expected, but the latter’s nickname is brand new knowledge.
Connected: Asus Zenfone 8: Everything we know so far
As you might have guessed, the “Flip” logo refers to the iconic funky rear view camera that was seen on previous Zenfone devices. The mechanism folds the rear camera module towards the front of the phone, eliminating the need for a selfie camera. It looks like the Zenfone 8 Flip will keep this design element, while the Vanilla model will end up with a more conventional design.
Check out the renders below and move on to see some leaked specs.
Asus Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip
Starting with the Asus Zenfone 8 rendering (above), you can clearly see a camera system with two lenses on the back and a left-aligned screen cutout for the selfie camera on the front. The display is smaller at 5.92 inches, supposedly with an FHD + resolution. The rear camera system could have a 64-megapixel main sensor and a 12-megapixel macro lens.
Inside, Agarwal reiterates that the Snapdragon 888 processor will be offered, which Asus has already confirmed. Agarwal says there could be an 8GB / 128GB variant when it comes to RAM and internal storage, respectively. However, it is likely that Asus will offer different memory configurations at different prices.
The Zenfone 8 could also have a 4,000 mAh battery with a 30W fast charge. Wireless charging has not yet been confirmed but is unlikely. Note that the phone also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is always nice to see.
With the Asus Zenfone 8 Flip, we clearly have a larger, higher quality device. It could have a 6.67-inch FHD + display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. Since the funky camera is on board, this display is completely uninterrupted with no notch or recess. The bezels look pretty small too.
The larger size of the phone reportedly has room for a 5,000 mAh battery with a 30 W fast charge. It would also have the Snapdragon 888, as confirmed by Asus. The triple camera on the back is apparently a 64-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 12-megapixel macro – an interesting choice if it’s true. The lack of a wide angle shooter could be a deal breaker for some buyers.
The Asus Zenfone 8 Flip and its vanilla counterpart will hit the market on May 12th. More information is available here!
