Netflix may be suffering from the aftermath of the global pandemic when it comes to subscriber growth. In fact, the streaming service is bleeding to subscribers in the US and Canada, 430,000 of whom will choose to leave the platform in the second quarter of this year. The company reported that it gained only 1.5 million new subscribers globally during that period – a significant decrease compared to the rapid growth last year due to COVID-19 lockdowns.

It’s unclear what is causing this subscriber outflow for Netflix, but the platform’s leadership certainly doesn’t think it’s due to competition from other streaming services like Disney Plus and HBO Max. “Do HBO or Disney have a different influence than they used to be? We don’t see that in the data we have. That gives us comfort, ”said Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings in an investor call (via ArsTechnica).
