Apple has finally updated a promised update to its Airtag Tracker that allows the airtag to be taunted with a loud tone when its owner separates from its owner's iPhone or other Apple device. The company promised it as part of a package of update in February, and the first such feature is rolling out.
In Apple notes “unwanted tracking sound to detect an unknown airtag to detect more easily Chain For version 1.0.301. With these changes, Apple has worked on other reforms to make Airtag less attractive as a stacking tool. The company has rolled out a new tracker detect app for Android users, as well as promising to increase accuracy in tracking unknown airtags.
Although Bluetooth trackers are not new technology, Airtags are controversial as they are from Apple.
“Unwanted tracking has been a social problem for a long time, and we have taken this concern seriously in the design of Airtag. That is why the Find My Network has been created with privacy, uses end-to-end encryption, and why we have first alerted unwanted tracking with active system. Improvements made for tile trackers later framing it as the beginning of Apple's industry trend.
Although Bluetooth trackers are not new technology, Airtags are controversial as they are from Apple. This is for two reasons. First, Apple has a tendency to create objects that were previously seen as “geeky”, very acceptable and user friendly. More people know about them and can easily use them. It includes ordinary people and unfortunate stockers and other Ne'er-DO-Wells. In short, Apple reduces the barrier to entry.
Second, and possibly most importantly, the omnipresent of Find My Network gives a great benefit to Airtag (and to an extent, Samsung Smartags) on tiles such as Bluetooth trackers. Airtags can be picked up by any iPhone in the world, which will then report the location to the owner. There is no dependence on users who install the app. It is only on everyone's iPhone, all the time.
The growing songs of voices have called Apple to do more. Apple-focused blog asks Mac Observer Apple Stop selling airtag Completely, while Tech Site Tom's guide asks for a temporary BreakAlthough Apple highlights cases where airtags have been used to find lost wallets and backpacks, but there is concern about their potential partnership in staring, theft and domestic misuse.
