Amazon adds podcasts to its music subscription service
Starting today, Amazon Music subscribers of all levels can listen to podcasts through the Amazon Music app, the company said on Wednesday. In addition to the established favorites, Amazon will offer original productions and has signed an exclusive contract with the popular Disgraceland podcast, which covers true crime stories about famous musicians.
The service allows syncing across devices, including the web, phones and tablets, with the Amazon Music app, as well as the company’s range of Alexa-based smart speakers and displays, without going to a separate service like Apple need to register podcasts.
The move comes as the competition in the podcast space continues to intensify. Spotify and Stitcher as well as Apple and Google are currently active.
There are multiple tiers of Amazon Music, including a free version with ads. Included in the company’s annual membership program for $ 119, Prime Music removes ads. The company also offers Amazon Music Unlimited, which offers an expanded catalog for an additional $ 8 per month for Prime members or for $ 10 per month as a standalone subscription.
